Just 60 days away.  Maybe this video will get me pumped up.

Tear down prepping for Hotrod Al to do some porting and polishing.

The Scooter Cannonball is not until April, but it feels like its happening next week.  Just got done booking most of the hotels for the main part of the trip which relieves a little stress.  Booking hotels in these little towns requires a phone and a little patience.  They dont have online reservations or even a confirmation number to give me.  Hope they have a room when I show up.

Just picked up a new sponsor for the Cannonball in April.  Pirate Upholstery out of NY.  They will be fixing up my old and busted seat so that I can ride in comfort over the 2500 miles.

I will post some pictures of the new hotness when it comes in.  I cant wait to try it out!

Check them out at their link above or on Facebook.

The transformation.

I have an official support vehicle and support driver for the Cannonball Run.  Red Rocket (NM Pharaohs) or Jeremy as some know him has agreed to drive me and my scooter to Savannah, GA then follow my stupid slow self all the way to San Diego, CA and then bring me and the scooter back home.

How freaking cool is that?

It doesn’t stop there, the scooting community has already started stepping up and offering some help along the way.  Lisa aka Princess Fury is helping me reach out to other places to fill in some gaps in gear that I need to make the ride. Nick O.aka Jersey might even come out and make a little documentary about the ride.

Scooter Mercato has stepped up to be my shop sponsor.  They will be assisting with consumables like oil, tires, and spare bits that I need along the way.  A newcomer for me is Piston Ported who is going to provide me with “Vintage Scooter Parts, Apparel and Shit” which includes some a new pipe.

So with all that lined up, I sent off my registration as well.  I should have an official rider number next week.

The entry form.

The Cannonball Run is inching closer everyday.  I have started the unsavory task of putting together the final Financial Plan for this adventure.  Research is telling me that it will take about $4000 to make this happen.  That covers everything from shipping my scooter to the starting line to daily meals.

I am sending out requests to businesses to see if I can get some help and defer these costs a bit.

I will also be trying to put together some events to see if I can get some help from my friends and family to make this a little easier as well.

What do you think? What would it take to get you to invest?

My approach for the Scooter Cannonball Run in 2012 - Planning and Maintenance.

I realize that there are many people out there prepping for the ride that have vastly superior mechanical skills then I have, so why try to build a super machine when its not my strong suit?

So I began thinking about the contact points with the bike.  What will make my ride more comfortable and safer?  What do I touch and what touches the road?

So I decided to start with me.  If I am in shape riding 4-5 hours a day will be easier.  Which brings me to my current addiction, CrossFit.  My buddy Jack told me about CrossFit and how much fun it was and how it helped him.  So I did a little research and signed up at Black Box Fitness after seeing this place on another friends Facebook.

Its only been a couple months but I already feel stronger and have more energy.  I hope that by keeping with it that I will be able to weather the ride easier and with less pain along the way.  If not at least I will lose a few pounds and that will help with top speed and gas mileage.

I am officially stating that I will be taking part in the 2012 Scooter Cannonball Run in April of 2012.

What is it?  Its a scooter race across the US.  The ‘12 route will take me from Savannah, GA to San Diego, CA in 8 days.  You can check out the route map and more here: http://www.scootercannonball.com/

There are so many things to plan and think about that I can barley stop thinking about it.  Should be a blast!
